BNI designs and manufactures specialty turbomachinery for aeronautic, cryogenic, energy, national defense, space flight, and other commercial/industrial applications. Specific products include avionics coolant pumps, cryogenic pumps, waste heat powered turbine-generators; military vehicle fans, and rocket engine turbopumps. Project engineers provide leadership, oversight, analysis, and direction.

Job Description:

This is a senior level position that requires 10+ years experience in the turbomachinery field, or with similar rotating equipment.  As a project engineer, you will lead programs from inception to shipment; including analysis, design, manufacturing oversight, assembly, and test of mechanical/electrical turbomachinery assemblies.  You will:

  • Work with Sales to help the customer fully specify their requirements.
  • Plan the execution of the project and form your team.
  • Lead the clean sheet engineering effort and apply engineering principles to define and analyze the design.
  • Direct and review the work of other engineers.
  • Oversee mechanical designers in the layout and detailed design task to ensure a cost effective and manufacturable design.
  • Address manufacturing issues as they arise and help develop process improvements.
  • Develop an assembly and test plan and specify/procure associated test hardware.
  • Validate and document product acceptance through testing.
  • Troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical engineering or other applicable major.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of rotating machinery design, analysis, test, and troubleshooting.
  • Analytical expertise in one of the following applicable areas of turbomachinery design:
    • Aerodynamics/Fluid mechanics
    • Thermodynamic (power cycle) analysis
    • Mechanical (rotordynamics, stress, thermal, bearings, seals)
    • Materials
  • Knowledge of machining practices, dimensioning tolerances, and design for manufacturability.
  • Results oriented and able to complete tasks on schedule and within budget.
  • U.S. citizenship or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information.
