Barber-Nichols, Inc. (BNI) has been working in energy related fields since 1966. BNI has designed and manufactured a vertically integrated array of products which are used by developers, producers, distributors, and consumers. Products include turbine-generators, vapor return blowers for LNG shipping terminals, and air and anode gas recirculation blowers for fuel cells. Standard and prototype products which conform to National Electrical Code (NEC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Military (MIL), and National Electric Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards are designed and manufactured on a regular basis.
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Products
Barber-Nichols designs and manufactures Vapor Return Blowers for shipping terminals and Submersible LNG Pumps for vehicle applications. Vapor Return Blowers transfer LNG vapor from large storage facilities onshore back to ships offshore while they are being unloaded. BNI's Vapor Return Blowers are based on two basic configurations and provide a variety of benefits including simple, efficient, and reliable operation at temperatures exceeding -162° C (-260° F). Submersible LNG Pumps are compact, economical, and will endure thousands of start/stop cycles and provide many years of maintenance free operation.
Waste Heat & Geothermal Power Generation
Barber-Nichols specializes in the design and manufacture of Waste Heat & Geothermal Power Generation Equipment. Thermodynamic Cycle Systems including Organic Ranking Cycles (ORC) and Steam Rankine Cycles are a core competency at BNI. These systems are used to turn industrial waste and geothermal heat, as low as 115° C (240° F), into electrical energy. Products include:

BNI also provides small, efficient cooling pumps and turbines for fuel cell applications. These machines are customized for specific fuel cells to meet the highest attainable efficiency goals.
