Contract Manufacturing and Prototype Manufacturing

Turbine DesignBarber-Nichols, Inc. (BNI) has been manufacturing precision high-speed rotating equipment since 1975. And in that time, has obtained a wide variety of highly specialized in-house Manufacturing Capabilities. The shop capabilities used to produce Barber-Nichols' own custom products are also available for Contract Manufacturing.Contract Manufacturing for Impeller Penny   Hard alloy turning, complex five-axis milling, electrochemical machining, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Inspection are all available on a contract basis. Additionally, advanced technical services such as Non Destructive Testing (NDT), balancing, and complete hardware assembly are also available.

 

Five Axis MachiningComputer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Turning / Five-Axis Milling

The Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Turning and Five-Axis Milling of  tight tolerance machinery is a specialty at Barber-Nichols.

CNC MachiningBNI's average programmer/machinist has been with the company for 14 years and has more than 22 years of industry experience. Complementing the expertise of its employees, Barber-Nichols invests heavily in state-of-the-art milling and turning centers and in sophisticated software that helps machinists generate highly complex tool paths. BNI routinely machines rotors, blisks, inducers, impellers, nozzles, housings, shafts, and ancillary components.

 

Electrochemical Machining Electrochemical Machining (ECM)

Electrochemical Machining (ECM) is another unique capability available at Barber-Nichols. This machining process can produce virtually any shaped cavity including through-holes and trepanned configurations. Furthermore, this process is unaffected by material hardness. BNI routinely manufacturers axial flow turbine blades and axisymmetric turbine nozzles in materials which are extremely difficult, and in some cases impossible, to machine by conventional methods.

 

Prototype Manufacturing Prototype Manufacturing

The Prototype Manufacturing of highly complex components is performed daily at Barber-Nichols. Prototype System Design & Development (SDD), Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), and the machining of expedited proof-of-concept units are all available.

If you need routine steel or aluminum CNC machining, call a job shop. But if your design calls for precision components machined from Inconel ® , Rene , Hastelloy ® , Udimet ® , Waspalloy , Rhenium, Astrolloy, Titanium, or other "tool eating" superalloys, call BNI to get the job done right!
