BARBER-NICHOLS AWARDED LNG VAPOR RETURN BLOWER CONTRACT

Arvada, CO: January 20, 2006 -- Barber-Nichols was awarded a confidential contract for two LNG Vapor Return Blowers to be installed at one billion cubic foot/day import terminal and regasification plant. Commercial operations will commence in 2008, will improve natural gas supplies in the Southwestern United States, and will bolster the regional economy. Additionally, project managers are working extensively with regional evironmental protection agencies and with local biologists and naturalists to insure that proper environmental safeguards are in place.

Barber-Nichols' LNG Vapor Return Blowers transfer boil-off-gas from large onshore storage tanks back to ships while they are being unloaded. The boil-off-gas fills the void being created in the ship's tanks thereby preventing tank collapse and/or the introduction of oxygen into the system. These blowers have an innovative, strikingly simple design and for the customer, simplicity means greater reliability and ease of maintenance at an affordable price! Additionally, these blowers are small, quiet, and efficient.

Features & Benefits:

  • A Centrifugal, Single-Stage Blower with a High-Speed Motor Inherently Improves Equipment Reliability by Minimizing the Number of Moving Parts
  • Just Two Bearings and One Seal Cartridge Simplify Maintenance and Cut the Number of Required Spares
  • Variable Speed Control is Standard and Provides Smooth Ramp-Up, Capacity Control, and Load Sharing for Parallel Operation
  • Cryogenic Fluid Handling Machinery Permits Rapid Swings Between Ambient and Cryogenic Temperatures (-162oC / -260oF), Allows for Immediate Equipment Start-Up, and Eliminates the Need for Vapor Pre-Heating.
  • A Vacuum Insulated Cold Box Around the Blower Eliminates Ice Formation and Minimizes Noise Levels (Less Than 90 dB)
  • An Oversized, Air-Cooled Lubrication System Quietly Handles Both Bearing Lubrication and Motor Cooling
  • Designed for Use in Class I Division 2 Hazardous Locations
