In 2000, Barber-Nichols designed and produced an LNG vapor return compressor for a receiving terminal and power plant in Penuelas, Puerto Rico. Three 300 hp compressors piped in parallel process an extremely high, 2:1 volumetric flow rate. Each compressor is installed on its own baseplate along with a high-speed direct-drive electric motor, oil lubrication system, variable frequency drive, and associated piping and control system.
